Trustees
Salary: Unremunerated with reasonable expenses paid
Location: Remote, with travel to Premier League and Premier League Foundation offices (London) required for board meetings
Reporting to: Chair - Premier League Foundation
Purpose: The purpose of the Board of Trustees (the “Board”) is to provide leadership and overall strategic direction to the Premier League Foundation, promoting the charity’s values and mission in line with its charitable objectives.
Time Commitment: Approximately 1-2 days per month on average
Key responsibilities
To ensure that the Premier League Foundation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any relevant legislation or regulations
To ensure that the Premier League Foundation does not breach any of the requirements or rules set out in its governing document and that it remains true to the charitable purpose and objects
To contribute actively to the Board by using reasonable skill and care as needed to ensure that the Premier League Foundation is well run and efficient
To ensure that the Premier League Foundation measures its impact, implements quality standards and evaluates performance and progress towards its strategic goals
To safeguard the reputation and values of the Premier League Foundation
To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Premier League Foundation, ensuring its financial stability and the proper investment of any funds managed on its behalf
To ensure that the Premier League Foundation’s governance structure, including any sub committees/steering groups, is appropriate to a charity of its size, complexity and its charitable objects
To act in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries at all times, avoiding any personal conflicts of interest and misuse of charity funds
To be fully aware of individual and collective safeguarding responsibilities
To use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions
To hold lead Trustee responsibilities for one or more thematic areas which could include areas such as policing, safeguarding / education, health and other areas as required
To work constructively and collaboratively with colleagues on the Board and in the Executive team to help the Premier League Foundation achieve its potential and strategic objectives
To uphold and promote the Seven Nolan Principles of Public Life: Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership
Person specification
A strong personal commitment to the work of the Premier League Foundation, including the power of football to drive positive social impact and community development
Experience of operating within a Board, committee, or senior management structure in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation
Capacity to contribute actively to the strategic direction of the Premier League Foundation, demonstrated by evidence of an ability to think strategically and analyse complex concepts
Extensive experience in the specialist expertise detailed below
Confident and effective communication and influencing skills, with a willingness to speak their mind in a constructive and respectful way
A proven track record of effective, independent decision-making
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team that makes collective strategic decisions and to accept collective corporate responsibility for decision-making
Personal credibility, with an ability to act as an ambassador for the organisation with a variety of stakeholders
Strong personal integrity and professional behaviours
An understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion
A commitment to leading an organisation that prioritises and understands the importance of mental health and personal wellbeing
Experience of and commitment to raising safeguarding awareness and maintaining a culture of vigilance and action

Role-specific experience
We are currently seeking three Trustees, each with an expertise in one of the following areas:
Policing / Community Cohesion
Significant strategic experience within policing, community safety or a related field, with a strong understanding of the evolving role of police services and public policy
Deep insight into youth justice, crime prevention and the relationship between young people and communities, particularly those at risk
Credibility to engage and influence at senior levels, including police leadership, mayoral offices and justice stakeholders
A track record of building effective cross-sector partnerships and operating confidently within complex or sensitive stakeholder environments
Safeguarding / Education / Children & Young People
Substantial expertise in safeguarding policy and practice, with experience of oversight at organisational or system level
Strong understanding of education systems and the wider landscape for children and young people
Senior leadership experience within a relevant setting, such as local government, education or the third sector
Ability to provide clear oversight and constructive challenge on safeguarding, and to take on the role of designated safeguarding lead Trustee
Health (including Mental Health)
Senior experience within health, public health or the third sector, with a strong understanding of system priorities and challenges
Deep knowledge of mental health, particularly in relation to children and young people, alongside broader wellbeing considerations
Experience of developing and sustaining partnerships across the health landscape, with an ability to navigate policy and service environments
The judgement and insight to advise on emerging issues, including mental health, online safety and preventative approaches to wellbeing
