Welcome

Thank you for your interest in becoming EngineeringUK’s Director of Communications, Insight and Policy (DCIP).

You would join 65 colleagues united in their commitment to our mission to enable more young people from all backgrounds to be inspired, informed and progress into engineering and technology.

The UK has an ongoing shortage of engineers, technologists and technicians and Skills England identifies engineering and technology as areas of significant workforce demand. These workforce needs must be met if we are to refresh the nation’s infrastructure, fuel economic prosperity, and improve sustainability. This is why we need to nurture the next generation of engineers and technologists and where EngineeringUK comes in.

We are passionate about making sure that all young people understand the breadth, societal value and excitement of modern engineering and technology careers and know how to get into them.

Our new DCIP will join an Executive Team of five who lead the organisation and motivate and develop all our staff to enable them to reach full their potential. We take an evidence-based approach to everything we do, iterating and seeking out new opportunities to innovate and increase our impact. Our commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion as well as environmental sustainability are threaded through all of our activities as well as within the organisation.

The DCIP will play a pivotal role in shaping EngineeringUK's next chapter, providing strategic leadership across communications, digital, insight, research, evaluation, policy and public affairs. Bringing these disciplines together, you will strengthen our influence, reputation and evidence base, helping us to increase our impact on growing the engineering and technology workforce. EngineeringUK benefits from a stable income stream - a share of the professional registration fees of engineers and technicians who are also members of Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs). This places us at the heart of the sector, with a responsibility to work collaboratively and add value across it. All PEIs are members of EngineeringUK alongside our corporate members and our work is also supplemented by many other funders and in kind support from stakeholders.

It’s an exciting time to join the team. We have established strong delivery against our 2023-28 strategy as we enter its penultimate year, working with over 450 organisations, reaching over 220,000 young people each year, and with many new opportunities opening-up. We are keen to harness the opportunities presented by digital technologies and AI, both in how we communicate and engage with our audiences and in understanding their impact on future workforce needs. And you would be joining us just as we are building our next strategic plan.

If our collaborative and positive approach appeals to you, then please do get in touch.
