Role description

Chief Executive Officer

Salary: Circa £70,000

Location: Enfield, EN1 1DW – Hybrid Working

Reporting to: Chair of Trustees

Direct Reports: Head of Care Services, Head of Prevention Services and Finance Director

Purpose: Supported by a highly professional board and a talented and committed operational team, the new CEO will lead the execution of strategic objectives, oversee the financial and operational management of the Charity, and grow the footprint by promoting AUKE’s vision, ambitions, values and objectives in everything they do.


Key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Provide clear and forward-thinking leadership to ensure Age UK Enfield remains resilient, relevant, and impactful in a changing environment.

  • Work with the Board of Trustees to shape and implement the charity’s vision, mission, and long-term strategy, aligning all operations with its core values.

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic priorities, including the finalisation of the landmark project to bring the charity’s offices and dementia day centre under the ‘Destination Age UK Enfield’ initiative.

Financial Leadership and Fundraising

  • Take overall responsibility for the financial health and sustainability of the charity.

  • Drive business development and income generation, including funding bids, corporate partnerships, and capital fundraising for major projects.

  • Lead budgeting, financial planning, and monitoring, ensuring resources are aligned with strategic priorities and service delivery.

  • Ensure effective financial controls and systems are maintained in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure the charity meets all legal, regulatory, and statutory obligations, working closely with the Board and its Sub-Committees (Finance & Audit, People & Culture, Quality, Operations & Safety).

  • Support the Board by providing timely, accurate information and insights to inform effective decision-making and risk management.

  • Ensure robust governance structures, policies, and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed.

People and Culture

  • Lead and support the Senior Management Team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture across the organisation.

  • Ensure staff and volunteers are effectively managed, supported, and developed, with HR policies reflecting best practices and legal compliance.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and values-driven workplace that attracts, retains, and motivates diverse talent.

Service Development and Delivery

  • Oversee the development, delivery, and quality of services for older people across Enfield.

  • Ensure services are informed by the voices and needs of older residents, particularly those from underrepresented communities.

  • Use data, feedback, and best practices to shape new services and strengthen existing ones, ensuring high standards of delivery and measurable impact.

External Relations and Representation

  • Act as the principal spokesperson and ambassador for Age UK Enfield.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Enfield Council, NHS partners, voluntary sector bodies, and the wider Age UK network.

  • Champion the needs and rights of older people and promote positive attitudes toward ageing across the borough.


Person specification

  • Leadership and Strategic Experience: Proven senior leadership experience with a strong track record of managing teams, operations, and strategy. Ability to lead change and deliver strategic plans that support organisational growth and resilience.

  • Fundraising: Proven track record in successful fundraising, securing grants, and forging strategic partnerships, with expertise in diversifying income streams.

  • Financial Oversight: Demonstrable experience in financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and oversight of financial reporting.

  • Governance and Organisational Oversight: Understanding of charity governance and experience of working closely with a Board of Trustees or equivalent. Ability to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations and to embed governance best practices within the charity.

  • People Leadership and Team Management: Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and positive organisational culture. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, guide, and engage staff and volunteers at all levels.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building: Extensive experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, funders, and health and social care partners. Proven ability to represent an organisation to external audiences, promoting its mission, values, and objectives.

  • Service Development and Impact: Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate services that meet the needs of diverse older populations. A commitment to embedding the voice of service users at the heart of service development and delivery.
