Remuneration: Unremunerated
Location: Waltham Abbey
Time Commitment: approx. 1 day per month
Key Responsibilities
The statutory duties of a Trustee are:
To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document - sometimes known as a trust deed, constitution, or articles of association.
To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives - the Charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives, no matter how 'charitable' and 'worthwhile' those activities are.
To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
To ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
To protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation's funds.
If the organisation employs staff, to appoint the Chief Executive and monitor his or her performance.
Time Commitment:
The time commitment for this opportunity is approximately one day per month. This includes one Board meeting per month with an expectation that every other meeting will be attended in person on site. There will also be ad hoc support and events.
Person Specification
Following a skills audit, the Board have identified several skills gaps which they would like to address within this round of recruitment. As such, the Board are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with the following skills/experience:
Visitor operations - within heritage, attractions or a consumer facing business, covering visitor management or commercial activities.
Property Development - experience in developing a “mixed business model” in a heritage or related body, knowledge of the planning system and the property sector would be an advantage
Marketing and Tourism - experience of marketing and PR for visitor attractions
Historic buildings conservation - experience of historic building conservation, perhaps as an architect, surveyor or local authority conservation officer
Fundraising - within the heritage and built environment space
Legal and Governance - property or charity law
