Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Finance and Operations at Runnymede Trust.

The Runnymede Trust is marking its 60th anniversary in 2028; as an organisation it has grown from a specialist policy-influencing think-tank to become a leading voice on racial justice across the UK. We publish authoritative research from reparations to renting, from labour wards to labour markets, and from housing to health, we share the evidence that highlights inequalities and advocates for progressive change. Our influence remains firmly tied to the policy space, and we are committed to creating a policy environment that addresses racialised inequalities and creates the conditions in which communities of colour can thrive.

At the same time, we have expanded our reach, and work hard to support the wider racial justice and community ecosystem, ensuring that our work advances their efforts too. We are also developing our digital communications and campaign voice to make sure we are reaching audiences beyond these spaces, who can support racial justice in new and direct ways.

We are proud of our broad anti-racist positioning and take seriously our responsibility to strengthen solidarity across the communities we serve.

The recent period has been one of considerable flux and change. Externally, the political conversation has swung from grandiose commitments to racial justice following the murder of George Floyd, to perilous levels of normalised racism. We have witnessed intensifying forms of racism play out both directly - in riots and street violence - and more insidiously, in the coarsening of mainstream political and cultural narratives that shape our everyday conversation. This has significantly increased both the need for our work and the political risk and scrutiny that accompanies it.

We have just undergone an organisational restructure to strengthen our financial sustainability and maintain a clear commitment to delivering on our strategic priorities. We are now bedding in substantial changes to our team structure, and developing and enhancing the systems and processes that will let us work efficiently and effectively.

This role is designed for someone with significant experience building, growing and supporting organisational infrastructure and a workplace culture that enables a small team of research, policy and communications experts to work at their best. We work in a challenging and fast-moving environment; we need someone who can provide steady, decisive leadership for the team through a period of significant change.
