Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining Open Contracting Partnership’s Governing Board.

Our world runs on public contracts. Every year, governments spend $13 trillion - one in every three public dollars spent worldwide - on public contracts to deliver schools, medicines, roads on which we all depend. Spent well, that money builds trust and opportunity. Spent badly, it fuels corruption and waste. Few levers in government are as powerful as public procurement, and few remain so under-examined.

For over a decade, the Open Contracting Partnership has worked to shift public procurement from a compliance- and paper- based bureaucratic chore into a strategic tool for better services, fairer markets, and stronger accountability. We've helped open up data on hundreds of billions of dollars in contracts, cut corruption risks, and enabled reforms in more than 50 countries, from creating opportunities for small businesses in Tanzania, empowering auditors through better open data in Indonesia and greening public procurement in Lithuania to transforming reconstruction and public investment in wartime Ukraine.

Why now? We are at the midpoint of our ambitious strategy to help one billion people live in more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable communities by 2030 by opening up and transforming some US$2 trillion in procurement spending.

The demand for open contracting is increasing: governments are asking us to help them buy AI responsibly, build procurement systems that enable sustainability, and open markets to small and women-owned businesses. But the environment we're working in has also become more volatile, with shifting donor priorities and civic space under pressure in many of the places we work. We want a Board that can help us navigate seize the former and navigate the latter and who will help us model our values of being open, bold, curious and human-centered as we deliver on mission and vision.

What we're looking for. We are recruiting up to two new Governing Board members, with a particular interest in leaders based in the Global South, especially with experience across Asia-Pacific, including India, Indonesia, the Philippines or Thailand. We're looking for people who bring senior expertise in one or more of: public procurement or government reform, digital government and data systems, civil society and accountability work, or organizational governance and finance. We are looking for partners with strategic judgment, genuine commitment to our mission, and the willingness to be active partners to our team — not just advisors at a distance.

This is a voluntary role, but not a passive one. It asks for real time and real engagement, in exchange for a genuine hand in shaping how one of the world's largest pools of public money gets spent.

We can promise you a bold vision, an exceptional Board, a motivated mission-driven team and some meaty strategic discussions as we seek to change the world. If that motivates and excites you too, we would love to hear from you.
